Wix's Open AI Scam

Last year I bitched that our host, Wix, doubled their price without a significant upgrade in services. I know, this is America, and I could've switched our web host at the time, but I didn't. I was complacent.

Then, in April of this year, Wix added the AI Image Generator:

Before I knew it, Wix was making suggestions as how to use AI for Images, Writing, and Blog Content. It made sense to me why they raised their prices.

But as a Free Speech Blog, we didn't really feel that we needed help with Writing or Blog Suggestions. AI's help was rudimentary in those departments. Basically, if I wrote a popular article, AI would suggest that I write more articles like that. Inversely, if I wrote a little read article, AI would suggest NOT to focus on that topic.

Duh.

In the Summer though, I renewed my subscription based on how pleased we were with the AI Image Generator.

Then, about a month ago, Wix moved their AI Image Generator. I couldn't find it and tried to contact Support. Bunch of dead ends and WixBot rigmarole. I figured out, on my own, where the new Image Generator was and that it was included in my tier of pricing.

Earlier this week, I was surprised when this message came up:

Apparently, unbeknownst to me, Wix capped off AI images generated (not used, but generated) at 1,000. 1,000 is a non-renewable number.

The only reason we used the Image Generator to begin with, besides it was cool, is we were deathly afraid of being sued by Getty or Shutterstock.

Then a day after I hit my capped limit, I read the story: OpenAI Confirms Plans to Become a For-Profit Company.

<sigh>

Which means I got to use 8 months of crappy, first generation AI as a....Beta Test?

You know what?

We're done for today.
