Axios just came out with a list of January 6th rioters that got over a decade in prison.
Just a reminder, January 6th was not the worst riot this decade.
1. Minneapolis-St. Paul Riots
After George Floyd's death at the hands of Derek Chauvin, the citizens of Minnesota burned down half of the Twin Cities.
Initial Event: 13 Days in the Spring of 2020.
Subsequent Events: On and off for the next 2 and 1/2 years.
Damage: Half a billion dollars in the initial event.
Public Officials Cited for Incitement: Zero
Arrested: 20 Federal / 90+ State and Local
Deaths: 2
2. Portland Riots
Started with George Floyd, evolved into defunding the police.
Event: From the Spring of 2020 until Joe Biden's inauguration, there was a steady stream of violence. Yes, on January 6, 2021, there was a small riot in Portland, but not for the same reasons as that OTHER RIOT. There was a flickering of rioting in Portland for nearly 3 YEARS. According to the Federal Government: 'Rioters in Portland set up an autonomous zone that ultimately cost the city $2.3 million in damages--an autonomous zone!"
Damage: Between $5 million and $25 million.
Public Officials Cited for Incitement: Zero
Arrested: Almost a thousand.
Deaths: 1
3. Kenosha Riots
After the shooting of Jacob Blake, citizens from far and wide descended on Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Initial Event: Last week of August 2020.
Subsequent Event: Days before and after January 6, 2021.
Damage: $50 million (according to the Kenosha business alliance.)
Public Officials Cited for Incitement: Zero
Arrested: Over 300 in both events combined.
Deaths: 2
4. Capitol Riot (2020)
Further ripples from the initial George Floyd Riot, this time in Washington D.C. On May 29, the situation was so tenuous the President was briefly rushed into an underground bunker.
Event: From May 28, 2020 - June 23, 2020
Damage: Unclear
Public Officials Cited for Incitement: Zero
Arrested: Unknown
Deaths: 0
Why the dearth of information? I tried 5 different search engines, each one re-directed my search to the shorter Capitol Riot in 2021.
5. Capitol Riot (2021)
On January 6, 2021 a bunch of sheep and hoodlums threw a giant sized temper tantrum because their presidential candidate didn't win. CNN claimed it was an insurrection, it was not. An insurrection is what happened in Myanmar, Niger or Gabon. But the situation was tenuous enough that Congresspersons were briefly evacuated.
Event: January 6, 2021 for about 6 hours.
Damage: $30 million in damage AND security measures.
Public Officials Cited for Incitement: Ex-President Donald Trump
Arrested: 1,100 Deaths: 1
Now, depending on how you interpret statistics, you could argue "I read 10 people died at the Capitol Riot (2021)." Really? That number 10 included drug overdoses and police officers that committed suicide up to a year later. How many police officers committed suicide after Minneapolis and Portland? Conveniently that's not tracked.
On Wednesday, September 16, 2020: George Floyd Riots Cause Record -Setting $2 Billion in Damage, New Report Says. Now you could argue that 9/11 cost insurance companies more, and that would be true, but in the category "Civil Unrest," nothing tops Minneapolis. And when I say Minneapolis, I mean the "George Floyd Riots." The only riot I could find concrete security measure costs on was the Capitol Riot (2021). But...
According to Fox "in Tucson, police overtime for one night May 30, (2020) cost taxpayers more than $100,000 for 239 employees, about the annual salaries of two rookie officers. On that same Saturday night, Cleveland police racked up $3 million in overtime. Even small towns incurred costs: Fargo, N.D., spent $840,000 and Harrisburg, Pa., $50,000 in overtime.
'Fortunately,' we only had one day of social unrest, whereas other cities had four, five, six, seven days,' said Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson. 'In order for us to do what we had to do, we had to spend over $3 million in overtime.'”
That was 3 years ago. What did the George Floyd Riots have to do with Cleveland? 3 years after "defunding the police" Cleveland needs to graduate a 100 cops a year simply to replenish terminations and retirements. From last month: "Only 11 cadets graduated in the most recent class when there were almost 300 applicants."
Police Shortages: Minneapolis
Police Shortages: Portland
Police Shortages: Kenosha
Police Shortages: Largest Metropolitan Areas
Police Shortages: Small Towns
I didn't even mention the George Floyd Riots in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Boston, or Phoenix.
I'm not saying you can't hold Donald Trump's feet to the fire for his shenanigans on January 6. I am saying that if you charge Trump, you have to indict Vice President Kamala Harris, Representative Ilhan Omar, and Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi for stoking the flames for the Democrats who didn't like how quickly the justice system moved in relation to George Floyd. Pelosi was jazzed when America was burning down its own cities, she was mad when losers put their feet on her work desk.
Remember, Derek Chauvin wasn't found innocent, he was found guilty and sentenced to 252 months in prison.
I can't go a day without hearing about Jan. 6. When is the last time you heard about the George Floyd Riots, a prolonged event that basically decimated our country's safety forces?
