Pope Francis' Fundamental Misinterpretation of Sex and Religion

Are you versed in the fundamentals of Quantum Mechanics?

Probably not. Why? Because it's hard and complicated.

Are you versed as to why sex is a sin in the Catholic Religion?

Probably. Why? Because it is a really, really easy concept.

But for those who don't know, we will do a quick review.

For the past 2,000 years, the Catholic Church has, on the record, declared almost every single type of sex a sin. Listen, Beacon of Speech has only existed for 8 years, we are not preaching at you, that is not our policy. Actually, we don't have a sex policy, we don't care what you do, but the Church Doctrine is very clear.

What type of sex is allowed for Catholics?

Heterosexual sex, within the sacrament of marriage, only for the sake of procreation.

The end. One sentence.

Now this is where things get 'complicated.' Lots of people like sex in various different incarnations, yet don't appreciate being called sinners.

Do you want to know the real reason homosexuality is a sin? No matter how woke you are, no amount of sex between two women, or no amount of sex between two men, results in a child being born. You are arguing that medical science-

Ah, ah, ah, let me stop you right there.

Even though I am married, and attend the Catholic Church, I sin all the time. Why? Because I had a vasectomy. No sex I have will result in children. My wife had cancer and she is unable to have children due to cancer treatments. No sex she has would result in children. Did she get a no-sin waiver from the Bishop due to her illness? Uh, no. Even if I was out of the picture, she could not conceive.

Which moves us further down the rabbit hole. Other various sins for the married author:

Sin - Any extramarital affair I may have outside marriage.

Sin - Me paying for sexual related services.

Sin - Sex with my wife in "non-traditional" manners. (C'mon, we're all adults here, you know what I'm talking about).

Sin - Sex with a third in a "throuple."

Sin - Sex with intimate objects.

Sin - Masturbation

Please don't take your Sex Robot to Church.
Please don't take your Sex Robot to Church.

Read a few of my Beacon of Speech articles, I'm a pretty vanilla guy. But now we move into the LGBTQ World. The world of binary vs. non-binary, straight vs. gay, pronouns, pansexuality, and transgender gray areas.

Guess what? We aren't going to break it all down, because it is ALL A SIN. Unless the sex is heterosexual sex, within the sacrament of marriage, only for the sake of procreation, it is a sin. Again, not a lot of room for misinterpretation.

For the last three days, one of the lead stories at the Drudge Report was why Andrew Sullivan Loved the Pope. Sorry, I'm not familiar with Sullivan. Apparently he's a Gay, British Conservative, who used to run Liberal American Magazines (???).

Hmm, still not ringing any bells. So I googled: Why is Andrew Sullivan important? "Sullivan wrote the first major article in the U.S. advocating for gay people to be given the right to marry, published in The New Republic in 1989."

Now we're getting somewhere.

Andrew Sullivan is the new wave of American Philosophers who think that he's good, and his friends are all good, no matter what their lifestyle is. They shouldn't change, the church should change. That philosophy is running rampant in our society. Many Americans consider themselves good people, with only, maybe, a vice or two, (or three or four). In their minds, they are going to heaven, no matter what they do. As a matter of fact, we talked about this plague of backwards thinking back in 2020 in our article; Jesus vs Satan:

"Does Jesus approve of abortion on demand? No, he does not.

Does Jesus approve of single-parent households? No, he does not.

Does Jesus approve of divorce? No, he does not.

Does Jesus approve of keeping a weapon in your house to protect your family? Yes, he does.

Does Jesus approve of marching down the street with your weapon in hand? No, he does not.

Does Jesus approve of free speech? Yes, he does.

Does Jesus approve of the principle that More Money=More Speech? No, he does not.

Does Jesus approve of immigration? Yes, he does.

Does Jesus approve of other faiths? It depends. (There are a TON more faiths than two thousand years ago.)

Does Jesus approve of parents as role models? Yes, he does.

Does Jesus approve of millionaire actors and athletes as role models? No, he does not.

Does Jesus approve of tradesmen being role models? Yes, he does.

Does Jesus approve of pornography? No, he does not.

Does Jesus approve of pre-marital sex? No, he does not.

Does Jesus approve of drug abuse? No, he does not.

Does Jesus approve of the preacher making millions? No, he does not.

Does Jesus approve of the majority of American Pop Culture? No, he does not....

If you don't care about Jesus, that is your prerogative. Let me be clear here, all I am saying is that you can't say things like "Jesus wants me to do pornography," then cite the Bible.

"Jesus would support my abortion." Really? You might have skimmed over a lot of very important Bible verses."

Why does Sullivan love former Pope Francis? He thought that homosexuals were making in-roads with the Catholic Church. Pope Francis preached compassion for alternative lifestyles.

You know who else did that? Jesus himself.'

Jesus waded through to the fringes of society and said "we are all Brothers and Sisters."

Jesus said to stop sinning and "come to God."

Now here is the difference between Jesus and Francis. Francis had compassion for the sinners and said "I understand your sins, and I may bless some of them."

Wrong interpretation.

If you are gay, and are furious with the Catholic Church for their interpretations of the lifestyle of Christ, you can be Episcopalian. They are recruiting.

Now some would argue church traditions are not written in stone. Some would say that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were husband and wife and consider celibacy in the early church as a myth. Hey, you might fit in with the Lutherans. They are recruiting.

Which circles us back to Andrew Sullivan. In the Catholic Church, there are 7 Sacraments:

Baptism

Confirmation

Eucharist

Penance

Matrimony

Anointing of the Sick

Holy Orders

The 7 Sacrament focus on the Family from Birth to Death. There is no "Sex Sacrament." You say there should be? Show me a religion whose tenets revolve around Sex.

You don't have to belong to any religion. You can 'get down' all day and all night.

You can have all the sex you like, straight or gay. Why is it that the first thing Sullivan wrote about when the Pope died was this quote: “Every man and every woman must have a window in their life where they can turn their hope and where they can see the dignity of God. And being a homosexual is not a crime. It’s a human condition,” - Pope Francis.

Homosexuality is no more a 'crime' than my barren adventures with my wife. But church teachings are very clear and Francis was the head of the church.

Sullivan's money quote was this: "For those who seek in Catholicism a psychological, intellectual, and even political anchor, Francis was maddening."

Uh, yeah.

Francis had ample time to launch a Vatican Council III and fundamental reshape the church, if he so chose. Why didn't he? From Francis himself: "The Church is not ready for a Third Vatican Council."

Why, you ask? Francis, before his death - "Vatican Council II has yet to be fully implemented."

Vatican II ended in 1965!!!

The elephant in the room is the Catholic Sex Abuse Scandal. Now there are two parts to this equation, let's start with the shorter version first.

  • Primarily in South America, priests are constantly being outed for having secret wives and families. What happens to those priests? They are kicked out of the Church. The practice is so prevalent, especially in places like Peru, Brazil, and Argentina, there's a worldwide support group to address the problem: Coping International Limited. How do these priests get caught? Usually when the clergy funnels money from the parish to the secret family, someone inevitably rats them out. The hierarchy of the church HATES losing that money.

  • Primarily in the United States and Europe, priests have been shown to have a tendency to molest kids for, at least, a hundred years. The peak of the child sex abuse scandal in the West was a generation ago, where 1 in 20 priests were under investigation for inappropriate behaviors with the children. What happened to those priests? Many were re-assigned or moved from parish duties. The Catholic Church hierarchy showed the priests "compassion," well, until they started to get hit with BILLION DOLLAR SETTLEMENTS due to their neglect. Then the church finally started to get serious about, at minimum, addressing their problem.

My school district employs about 500 people. If you took that same 1 in 20 ratio to the local school district, that would mean the city employs about 25 child molesters. Simple math. Do you know how fast the FBI would be at our Board Office, hauling people away in handcuffs and cleaning house with that ratio? They would, rightly, strip out the entire leadership of the district for cultivating a culture of abuse. The Catholic Church, on the other hand, hides behind separation of church and state edicts and employs the same "too big to fail" philosophy that many of the largest multinational corporations roll out when they are in trouble.

What's my point? The Catholic Church has lost the moral high ground when it comes to Sex. Those priests were hardcore sinners. Priest cannot marry, or reproduce, with pre-pubescent boys. Once the pattern of priests abusing kids was established, the whole hierarchy of the church should have been gutted. I have stated, on the record, that dissolving the Catholic Church should have been on the table. A total scrape and rebuild. A new church would have emerged from the ashes, a church that actually punishes child molesters and allows priests to marry if that was their preference.

My argument would be that there are no bigger sinners than the church hierarchy itself who, either molested kids, or protected priests that molested kids.

As a libertarian leaning website, we have stated that the government should recognize both gay and straight marriages. Or, the government should be out of the marriage business all together. Either are valid libertarian arguments. What the government can't do, is dictate to a religion whether they have gay marriage or not.

Which infuriates the Andrew Sullivan Crowd to no end. But the larger conceptual question should be: Why does he care about the justification for his lifestyle from a fundamentally corrupt entity?

If you're gay, you're gay.

The Bible would still exist.

The teachings of Christ would still extend through other Protestant Religions. Join a non-denominational church. There are about 45,000 of those in the United States alone.

It is a shame that Andrew Sullivan's story has been amplified by the Drudge Report. By modern definitions, the Pope should be socially Conservative. I am telling you, a lot of Left-leaning websites, like CNN and the USA Today, are rooting for a New Pope in Francis' socialist mold.

Instead of proselytizing ideas from the Global Left, the Vatican wants a New Pope that's more faith based. Pope Francis fell into the trap of inserting himself in the culture wars. He should have been smarter than that.

And, here's my shameless philosophical plug: If you're an American Conservative, you should really dump Drudge for Whatfinger.
