Back in 2006, a Stripper accused 3 Duke University Lacrosse Students of raping her. The story polarized the nation as it went viral that a Working Class Black Woman, who was quoted by various media outlets, including Rolling Stone Magazine, accused Rich White "Kids" of kidnapping and sexually abusing her.
Even though the 3 students eventually had the case dropped later in that same year, there were whispers that Rich Benefactors expeditated the case being dropped.
Today, the lead story at ESPN: Duke Lacrosse Accuser Admits Publicly That She Made Up Story.
"I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn't and that was wrong," Mangum, 46, said in the interview, which was released Monday. The interview was recorded last month at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women, where Mangum is incarcerated for fatally stabbing her boyfriend in 2011. The former Duke players were declared innocent in 2007 after Mangum's story fell apart under legal scrutiny. The state attorney general's office concluded there was no credible evidence an attack ever occurred, and its investigation found no DNA, witness or other evidence to confirm Mangum's story.
The Durham prosecutor who championed Mangum's case was disbarred for lying and misconduct. Prosecutors at the time declined to press charges against Mangum for the false accusations."
Now the students were never convicted in a court of law, but their names were sullied in the public forum. By 2007, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper dropped all charges, declaring the three lacrosse players "innocent" and victims of a "tragic rush to accuse."
But guess what was the leading story at Rolling Stone today? Not the Duke Lacrosse Accuser Confession-
With the exception of the Andre 3000 story, nothing but their normal crud.
But you can hop in a time capsule and still read about Evil Duke University.
You can still read about those "horrible" Duke Students at Rolling Stone. As a matter of fact....
Rolling Stone wants you to PAY for a story that was debunked 17 years ago. You think I'm a jerk, taking award winning journalist Janet Reitman out of context? If there were no rape accusations against Duke Lacrosse, Reitman wouldn't have done her story from Ground Zero at an "Ivy League School of the South."
Now you want to argue that it's not fair to pick on Rolling Stone, either? Listen, they are literally advertising Support Journalism That Speaks Truth to Power on a story based on a false premise and overarching narratives.
That's all journalists?
Well....
