Kudos to our Superintendent

Writer's picture: Fred Fred

As we have mentioned before, my day job is in the local school district.

Our Superintendent is a good man. The last Superintendent was as slippery as an eel, he was a politician. Our current Superintendent is an educator. What's the difference? Let me tell you....

The district in which I work is a rich, Conservative suburb. I am not a good fit in the department in which I work. Just on Friday, the last employee at my desk was wearing this $70 hat.

"Only" $70
"Only" $70

Our district is the richest in the county, with the average home price being $450,000.

I was very surprised, no, actually shocked, that our local Superintendent sent out an email on Monday that said we would not allow ICE on our district's premises. In a missive that is probably as sternly worded as any he has ever sent, he said, paraphrasing, that the job of the district is to educate children, not to participate in political actions.

Now let me tell you a secret. Of the 5,000 students in our district, how many do you think are illegal aliens? Maybe 2, 3 tops.

The email was a symbolic gesture. When the Superintendent says he will stand at the front doors of any school and block the entrances with the local police from ICE, he is not scoring any points with the community. He is plainly stating that he will educate any child that shows up in his district.

Which is the job of any educator.

Did he endear himself to parents and business leaders? (I don't think he did.)

He scored points with me though.

Even if you're the sternest advocate of deporting illegal aliens, imagine the trauma of a student watching another one of their classmates being dragged out of the classroom.

That is a scenario that should never happen in classroom. Period.

That shouldn't be open to debate.

Editor's Note: You think I'm a fringe liberal? Man, you haven't read too many Beacon of Speech articles.

But there's a reason I'm writing this today. There are RUMORS that kids are being pulled from classrooms, but I haven't seen any real video of it occurring. Every kid from Middle School on up in this country has a cell phone. If ICE was breaking into classrooms and escorting children out, it would be on every 6:00 telecast in this country.

The first few weeks of Trump Administration have been described as "chaos." Be sure you know what has been proposed, versus what is actually happening or is being tied up in the court system.
