I am convinced that Amoye Favour is a badly administered AI program.
"His" last two articles were two of the worst missives in the entire history of music journalism. They were so bad, I was running around the house screaming due to the electrical shortages in my brain.
When I first read both, I was convinced it was someone trying to be edgy for 'clicks'. But after reading more and more AI generated content, I became convinced that my ire was poorly directed.
Then I read this over at MSN today:
Now I am aware that Queen's Brian May is a very educated man. I believe he has a PhD, but Queen is not Metal. I am also aware that the Offspring's Dexter Holland has a PhD, but listen to the song Pretty Fly (For a White Guy). Not one ounce of Metal is contained within.
With that being said, let's summarize Amour's list:
Brian May: Already said it. NOT METAL.
Christopher Martin: From Coldplay? NOT METAL.
Dexter Holland: Again, NOT METAL.
Bruce Dickinson: Okay, even a blind squirrel can find a nut. Dickinson has (the equivalent) of a bachelor's degree and a Pilot's License.
Tarja Turunen: I had no idea who that was. Apparently, she's the former lead singer of Nightwish. As far as I can discern, she is Metal, but having the equivalent of a high school diploma isn't surprising for a Finnish citizen. She can speak four languages? Again, impressive, but not uncommon in Europe.
Tom Morello: Rage Against the Machine's guitarist? I've listened to his satellite radio show, he comes across as pretty smart. I didn't know he was a Harvard graduate.
Milo Aukerman: You mean of the Descendents? NOT METAL. NOT AT ALL. THE LITERAL DEFINITION OF PUNK.
Sterling Morrison: The Velvet Underground? No, he left the Velvet Underground in 1971 to focus on his studies. So, neither Metal, nor really, a Metal Musician.
Greg Graffin: <sigh> Not Metal. Punk. As a matter of fact, "trailblazer of modern punk music."
Brian Cox: An acclaimed academic, he was briefly in the band D:Ream. I never heard of D:Ream, and Brian Cox isn't listed as one of its members. So, Cox is on the list as a pop band's touring keyboardist in an article about Metal?
If Amoye Favour is AI, it hurts the art of music journalism.
If Amoye Favour is a human being, it hurts the art of metal.
If you think I'm too sensitive, go ask Martin Popoff what he thinks of Amoye Favour's lists?
