I just watched a new Sci-Fi/Comedy movie called Free LSD. The Preview is under Screen Shot.
The four stars of the movie were the members of the hardcore supergroup OFF!
Yellow Star - Dimitri Coats - Guitar
Wrote, directed, starred and produced Free LSD. For his work in this specific independent film, Coats get an A. An original story, (mostly) well done characters, and a peak at the soft underbelly of Los Angeles.
His previous band? Burning Brides.
Red Star - DH Peligro - Drums
Supporting actor in Free LSD. For what he was asked to do in this specific independent film, Peligro gets an A-.
His previous band? The Dead Kennedys.
Green Downward Arrow - Keith Morris - Lead Singer
Lead actor in Free LSD. For what he was asked to do in this specific independent film, Morris gets an F. Arguably one of the worst lead actors in any movie, ever.
His previous bands? Black Flag / Circle Jerks.
Blue Star - Autry Fulbright II - Bass
Supporting actor in Free LSD. For what he was asked to do in this specific independent film, Fulbright gets a B.
His previous band? .....And They Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead.
I understand that if Dimitri Coats wanted to make a cool sci-fi movie about his band OFF, he was stuck with Morris as his leading man, but halfway through the movie I thought:
If Henry Rollins was the lead, this would have been a great movie.
If Jello Biafra was the lead, this would have been a great movie.
If executive producer Anthony Kiedis was the lead, this would have been a great movie.
Hell, if supporting actor David Yow was the lead, this would be a great movie.
Morris was just wooden and unpleasant.
So Coats' only mistake was being loyal to his bandmate.
You want a more fleshed out review? I have never been more torn between a good movie review and a bad movie review based on one actor.
Coats' next movie will be great.
