I was scrolling endlessly last night, devouring every nugget of information as the Syrian Government collapsed and the Syrian Rebels stormed Damascus. Even veteran reporters were stunned at how quickly the capital city fell.

All right, all right. Russian Bot David Ca has had nothing to say about Syria for over the last 2 weeks. (Ex) President Assad fleeing to Moscow is a huge defeat for Russia. Your Russian Bot has no inkling to keep you apprised on any of Vladimir Putin's failings.

"The ongoing conflict in Syria has been marked by unexpected changes, leaving a complicated and shifting geopolitical scene. Recently, rebel groups have made significant strides toward the capital, Damascus. This unexpected development raises important questions about the future of the city and the wider consequences for the Syrian conflict. Since the Syrian Civil War began in 2011...."
Okay, okay. AI yammers on and on about events leading up to the Syrian Civil War, it isn't programmed (yet) to give specific reactions in real time.

The most stunning thing I saw was a citizen's X account, in the middle of the night, showing passengers walking through an abandoned Damascus Airport. All the police and military had simply abandoned their posts. One post showed a military uniform simply lying on the ground in a hallway.
When I went to bed last night, I couldn't comprehend how quickly the Rebels were gaining ground. But it appears this is what happened, let's see if it bears out:
Someone (possibly Turkey), gave the Syrian Rebels the greenlight to march on Damascus, giving them the intelligence that there would be very soft resistance on their journey. As the Rebels approached, Assad gave Uncle Vlad and Cousin Khamenei a call. Those calls came up empty. As Assad felt the pulse of his defense forces, he was already working on an exit strategy.
But defense is a 2-way street. There were rumors that Assad had already fled when he told his men to stay and fight. If soldiers feel like they are simply sacrificial lambs, sometimes their will to fight dissipates. But how despised would Assad have to be for his army to simply go AWOL and disappear. I don't even think the Rebels expected literally no resistance.
The reason the Rebels made record time in their cross-country trek is because there's a huge difference between LIGHT resistance and NO resistance.
Right now, Syrian citizens are basking in the glow of Assad being gone. What they have to worry about is what comes next.
The article I posted yesterday about Syria was already outdated within 12 hours of being published.
