Airplane Mode: Future Cult Classic

Yes, that's Logan Paul.

Last night, I was doomscrolling through Tubi's streaming catalogue, looking for the worst movie I could find to laugh at, and, lo and behold, up came Logan Paul's Airplane Mode.

I don't like Logan Paul.

I don't like Jake Paul.

But an inner voice said to give Airplane Mode (2019) a chance, the preview made it look epically bad.

It was.

But it was so bad, it was good. I laughed when I shouldn't have, and laughed at the overall absurdity of it all.

The Good:

I actually liked Chloe Bridges, she did a nice job as the female lead. Co-pilots Eric Wylde and Eric Griffin were consistently funny, as was Juanpa Zurita.

The Bad:

The movie made me like Logan Paul less. I want to see the contract that Paul signed with the Devil that gave him his career. Almost every YouTuber was terrible. *Spoilers* Almost all of the real actors "died" in the movie, whereas almost all the YouTubers lived. It would have been a much better movie if the formula was reversed.

The Ugly:

The plot. Basically the Paul Brothers, Jake and Logan, said "let's remake the movie Airplane! for the YouTube generation." Terrible, horrible, abysmal. Abrahams/Zucker/Zucker should have sued.

But the worst of the worst was Nick Swardson. Swardson was cringeworthy and was out-acted by Logan Paul. Since Airplane Mode came out, Swardson's career has been in the tank, only appearing in two small roles in Adam Sandler Productions. Hopefully his stand-up career is paying his bills.

But here's where I decided to write the article. After the movie ended, I wondered to myself "why have I never heard of Airplane Mode before?" Apparently, it didn't go straight to video, but straight to iTunes. I don't know if I've ever watched a movie on iTunes.

So I went to Rotten Tomatoes to see how many other people watched this trainwreck (sorry, plane-wreck). You'd be surprised....

1 star - This movie is full of memes, but since it was filmed in 2016, they're all so outdated and terrible. The movie is so bad I couldn't watch it in one sitting. The special effects are quite bad too and so many of the jokes don't even land. And the screaming, gosh, so much screaming. Instead of spending 80 minutes watching this movie, just go bake something nice or learn a new skill or even just look at paint dry..... (That review went on for another page.)

I could not stop laughing at all the bad reviews, it was like reading a comedy sketch. Then I read the sarcastic GOOD reviews.
