This bit was from 1983. The alleged story at the time is that the producers told Rod Hull not to allow the Emu to attack Johnny Carson, but attacking people was kind of the Emu's thing.
Johnny Carson passed away in 2005.
Richard Pryor passed away in 2005.
Rod Hull passed away in 1999.
The Emu still works intermittently. (Seriously, I'm not kidding. After Rod Hull tragically passed away, his son took over as the Emu's caretaker. Toby Hull and the Emu had a short-lived program in Great Britain in the 00's and here's a clip from 2015 showing an interview with Russell Brand.)
